In the video below, you can see how to create a membership fee. Below the video, you'll find an explanation for each of the six steps in the creation process.

Add a membership fee

Go to "membership fees" in the association menu and click the "+" in the blue circle:

Now, a page will open where you'll go through six steps to create the membership fee:

The six creation steps:

1. Automatic or manual membership fee

Here, you can choose whether members pay through Unioo (recommended) or if you handle the membership fees manually—or in another way. If you select "manual," you’ll need to track payments yourself, while automatic processing runs on autopilot. Members pay via their payment card, and the funds are transferred to the association on the following Thursday after the transaction:

2. Basics: Name and description

Create a clear and recognizable name for your membership fee and fill in a description. This is what members will see before they sign up.

Activate payment immediately or choose an activation date: You can choose whether members can pay the fee right away or if the payment should be processed at a later date.

Publicly available

Should the membership fee be publicly accessible? If it's public, anyone can join the association if they find your membership fee listing. Alternatively, you can set up membership fees so that any new member must be invited by a board member.

3. Target audience

Under target audience, you can select "gender" and "age" as parameters. This helps members choose the correct membership fee more easily. This step is optional, so you can skip it if you prefer.

4. Price: financial details

Here, you set the price of the membership fee. You can also charge a registration fee. (Some associations only charge a registration fee and no membership fee—if that’s the case, set the price to 0 DKK and specify the registration fee.)

You can also apply VAT if necessary (very few associations need to charge VAT on membership fees).

Choose Payment Interval
Once you’ve set the price, you can choose the payment interval: monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. Then, select the start month for the payment cycle.

Example: An association charges semi-annually, with a spring and autumn season. It would make sense to choose March as the start month. The payments would then occur in March and September each year.

5. Payment (payment settings)

Here, you can adjust payment settings based on the membership fee price and the member’s sign-up date. There are two options:

1. Gradually adjust payment
This is the default setting, where the membership fee decreases the closer it is to the next billing period. For example, if you have an annual membership from March to March and a member joins in January, they only pay for the three months left in the period. Full price is charged when the new period begins in March.

2. Always charge the same rate

With this setting, members pay the same price regardless of when they sign up. However, you can offer a grace period before the next payment cycle during which the membership fee is free. For example, if it’s free for 30 days before the next cycle, enter "30" in the field.

6. Overview: Approve and Create Membership Fee

Finally, you’ll get a summary of all the details you’ve entered. All steps will have been completed and marked with checkmarks. Now, click "Create membership fee."

Where should members sign up?

If you want members to sign up for membership fees themselves, they can do so through the public profile. You can link to this from your website or social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram.
